Oscar Fashion 2009

Maybe it’s because I haven’t really looked at red carpet fashion in a while (contrary to common belief I do not constantly stalk celebrity gossip/fashion), but I rather enjoyed the fashion at the Oscar’s this year. There were lots of white, strapless and asymmetry designs with the hair generally in updo’s, showing off the neck and shoulder. The stars looked they were princess’s in a fairy tale- and I’m always a sucker for fairy tales. My favourite princesses were Penelope Cruz and Sarah Jessica Parker.

I am simply in love with Penelope Cruz’s look. The intricate details of her vintage Balmain dress is exquisite. The ivory color compliments Penelope’s slightly tanned complexion perfectly. The clean up-do and understated make-up goes is just right with her simple jewelry (very smart to go for the studs instead of the drops as one is always tempted to do when the hair is up). The whole look is just the epitome of elegance. It really must be fate that she won the best supporting actress, seeing how this dress waited for her in that store for 8 years! oscar-sarah-jessica-parker-dior-couture

Sarah Jessica Parker’s Couture Dior dress looks exactly like what I imagine Cinderella’s dress to the ball (or her wedding) would look like- because those costumes they sell at the Disney store will definitely not make one the belle of the ball and catch the eye of the prince.

Ironically the younger actresses, like Anne Hathaway and Evans Rachel Woods opted for the more sophisticated looks from Armani Prive (left) and Elie Saab Couture (right- I love the swishing of the skirts at the bottom). Both are still very pretty, just not that interesting. Vanessa Hudgens on the other hand looked like she was playing with her mom’s wardrobe in her Marchesa. Maybe I’m just biased against fish tail dresses, but you’d think she’d pick something cuter out of all the gorgeous Marchesa designs there are.

Sigh, I just can’t get over Penelope and Sarah Jessica’s fairy tale dresses!
