Cute Find

I love matching PJs. I spent my college years walking around the dorm in matching “Chicks Rule” PJs (and slippers!) I’d found at Target.

So today when I walked into Forever 21 and saw these flannel PJ pants on “Weekly Special” for only $6, I perked up! I can always do with more pjs, after all I spend the majority of my time in them.

Of course, I then started to look for the matching top. These illustrated tees were placed next to the PJ pants, so I assumed that they were a pair and thought it was a really cool match (although now that I examine how they’re arranged on their website… maybe not. Does one wear rhinestones to bed?). The tees are artistic rather than tacky and their loose cutting looks infinetely comfortable. What’s more? They only cost $5! I was sold and walked out the door with black plaid  flannels and the grey ice skater tee (I thought it was a ballerina at first, and I loved the purple accents). I am loving the tees and may have to get more. They’d make excellent small Christmas presents- though I think they’re limiting it to two prints per customer.

The Raisin Balenciaga City

Everywhere I went in NYC, I was accosted by the purple Balenciaga City bag. Most memorably, on Thanksgiving day while I was people watching at the entrance of the Columbus Circle Whole Foods. This girl came up the elevator in a simple loose shirt and leggings, with a long scarf wrapped around her neck, carry a purple Balenciaga City bag- and I thought what a perfect outfit! The long scarf and the bag provides the simple outfit with just the right accent to make it interesting. Moreover, I LOVE that shade of purple! After that I started seeing the bag everywhere. But of course the Barneys and Berdorf in NYC have already sold out of the bag since they’re already all over the streets!

After some research, I found out that this shade of purple I love is called Raison and that it currently comes in two styles of the City. The classic one (left) and the giant covered one (right). Neither is especially perfect. Perfect would be a raison giant city, with silver or gold studs. I’m not loving the purple covered studs, because it doesn’t really pop and it is a LOT more expensive than the classic. And the classic is just classic.

Or perhaps I should expand my horizons and set my heart on a raison day bag instead? One of my friend has it and it is definitely different as far as Balenciaga’s go, compared to other brands though… it is just another hobo bag. Oh but I do so LOVE this color!

Black Friday Report

Frankly, I don’t find Black Friday that great of a shopping day unless you go to the outlets at midnight, which is an experience within itself. But if you’re like me and don’t want to brave the crowds, the lines (there was a ridiculous line at the Puma store to pay one year…) and is too lazy to find your way to an outlet, then Black Friday is really nothing special. Now that the department stores have adjusted their inventory accordingly, there are no more crazy extra 70% off sales at Saks anymore. This year at Saks, it was just a measley extra 25% off and it didn’t even apply to everything!

Regardless though I did pick something up. After having stalked this Theory suit for over a month, it was finally on sale. Actually it was on sale last Tuesday on Saks.com, but having slept on it, I woke up the next morning to find my size gone (it must be busy in the offices in the mornings!). I was convinced it will be at the store though, and so on Friday afternoon my friend and I braved the hoards at Saks Fifth and found it. It wasn’t a size 2, but luckily the cutting is really small and I fit perfectly into a size 4. I couldn’t find the pants in my size on Friday, but amazingly enough when I went again on Saturday morning (the sales lady put the wrong size jacket in my bag!!!), it was there! Both were 40% off.

Usually I hate suits because most of them make me feel drab, like a bank teller. But I am LOVING this one. The jacket is cut short and fitted and the pants are slightly wide leg. The over all effect is incredibly chic. It isn’t quite the dark gray suit skirt I was looking for (this color/material doesn’t come with a pencil skirt sadly), but it makes me feel awesome, and I can’t wait to wear it!

Signature Serena Dresses

It was few episodes ago, but I still can’t get over how great S looked in this dress! I love the color. The fitted siloheutte and the assymetric sleeves is the epitome of this season’s style. And of course, S carries it off beautifully!

Gossip Girl- Serena- alexander wang1

Lo’ and behold, who is it by? Fashion’s golden boy, Alexander Wang!

S- catherine malandrino

Speaking of especially memorable Serena dresses, does anyone remember this one? I was so inspired by it, I bought my own version of it also by Catherine Malandrino. But then after wearing it once or twice, I sadly realized that I am simply no S and couldn’t quite carry off this kind of dress with aplomb. It is currently looking for a new owner on Ebay if anyone is interested. It would look especially good on you if your hair is not black.

Zip Up!

The other day, while I was browsing through UO, I came across this dress at the back of the store and was immediately drawn to it. UO Dress

It is definitely not my usual style. This is much edgier than my feminine and girly norm. But the pencil skirt trend has grown on my lately, and I love the artsy pink floral print. The edgy zip gives the dress just the right amount of oomph to make an otherwise matronly dress look youthful and fun. I knew I had to have it!

Zip- UO

After that, I started seeing front zip skirts everywhere. There were more more versatile and casual versions of it at UO (above).

Zip- aqua

Dressier versions at Aqua. Incidentally, the purple dress on the left above? I left my phone inside the dress pocket when I was trying it on at Bloomingdales and I didn’t realize it until I got home that night. Luckily, I live super close to Bloomies and I got there just 15 minutes before it closed. They’d put the dress back on the rack, but luckily my phone was still inside it!

Zip- GG

And of course, on B at Gossip Girl. If the ultimate feminine and girly dresser is also wearing the zip up pencil skirt dress, then I must be heading in the right direction!

On Ebay!

So after much encouragement and research, I’ve decided to try my hand at Ebay. I just put the brown Coach tote up on Ebay here. Since this is my first venture into Ebay, obviously I don’t have any ratings or Ebay credentials, so any support or just click-ages would be appreciated! 🙂

Ps. This is not turning into a commercial blog trying to sell things off to people. I simply want to make some space in my wardrobe and find a good home for my things. It hurts and feels extremely wasteful if I give them away. I just did a quick inventory and it’s scary how many black leather bags I have…………..

Keep or Sell?

For a super indecisive person, I’ve made many difficult decisions lately. One of which is that I should really clean out my wardrobe of items that I haven’t used and will possibly never use again- even if they have sentimental value.

buyorsell- coach tote

This brown suede Coach tote with sequins for example. I got this during Thanksgiving at the Coach store in San Francisco my second year in college. I proceeded to use it daily for school until Spring when I switched to a more summery white Le Sportsac tote with gold lining. I possibly used it in my third year of college too. Then I got a black nylon Prada tote (which I’m still using!) and this proceeded to sit in my wardrobe waiting for another opportunity to come out, because seriously there’s nothing wrong with it. It’s in perfect condition and the style is not even that dated. Yet, it has been over 2 years and since then my collection of bags have only increased. I think it is time I let go. I even researched a good place to sell it at- Crossroads Trading . I won’t get anywhere near to what I paid for, but I am hoping it’ll at least buy me a meal (they give you 35% of what they sell it for).

buyorsell- rugby north america bag

The next item on my list is this leather messenger tote that totally fits into the old school preppy school theme. It’s from a brand called Rugby North America and it has sentimental value to me. But to be frank, I’ve only used it a few times and it has sat in my wardrobe for over 5 years since. I was just examining it and was newly impressed by its lining, zips and compartments. But let’s face it, I’m highly unlikely to be use it in the next 5 years.

buyorsell- burberry scarf 1

Then there is my purple Burberry cashmere scarf. This was my first Burberry/cashmere scarf and I remember being very excited and happy about it when I first got it in high school. There was a point when I’d wear it every single day and I even brought it with me to college. But alas, in the past few years, I’ve not worn it. Mostly because I’ve developed a taste for designs that are more subtle or “trendy” and there haven’t been much space for this girlhood classic. And honestly, I’m also afraid that I’d start feeling like what the Brits refer to as a chav if I wear it now. This will also fetch a very pretty penny (or so I hope!). But then again, it does have a lot of sentimental value to me (along with many other things). I’m on the fence with this one. Is it a sell or a keep?

Ps. This is not a comprehensive list of my sells. I’ve only just begun to take inventory and many have already been classified as a keeper regardless. i.e. my pink prom dress. I tried it on the other day and couldn’t believe how ridiculously old fashion I looked. And yet, when I bought it I could’ve sworn it was a classic!

I can feel the Manolo’s

manolo sample sale 2009

I’m not even in NYC but after much stalking I can feel the Manolo sample sale coming very very soon. So, I’ve prepared this list for my proxy to snag if she see’s any of them there for me, because I NEED a pair of Manolos!

Manolos 1

These will probably not be there, but I love love love these. I think I have an obsession with black peep toes. And aren’t those booties wicked?

I wouldn’t mind these in different colors: grey, pink, purple, beige, bronze, red, silver, navy blue. I’m just not a fan of prints/patterns/orange/light brown. Oh and no slingbacks please. I have too many and they’re not that comfy.

Manolos 2

More super gorgeous evening shoes I love. I think 3″ to 4″ is perfect. 4″ is probably the highest I can go without falling and anything under 2″ just seems like a waste of a Manolo (I hear it’s all about the arch!).

Manolos 3

And these are styles and colors that I don’t mind. As you can see, I’ve somehow gotten it into my head that I really want a pair of mary janes.

Oh and I’m a size 6. Thanks! 🙂

Easy Halloween Outfits

31 Saturday Oct 2009

For the last few Halloweens, I either didn’t dress up or had no idea what I was. I’m just not a big fan of buying costumes from the costume store because they are a) expensive b) badly made and c) unreturnable. So this year, I decided to be practical and brainstormed ideas for easy Halloween outfits. Here is what I came up with:

  1. Magician’s assistant: Just pop into a costume store and grab a hat, and pair it with your favourite white dress shirt, black vest and black shorts. Pair it with fishnets and heels for the full effect. To really put in that extra oomph, try it with this season’s hottest thigh high boots!
  2. Minnie Mouse: You don’t have to go all the way. Go to Forever 21 and pick up a white top and a red mini skirt. Cut circles out of white labels and stick it onto the skirt to create polka dots (if they don’t have a ready made one there already). Buy some mouse ears and stick on a bow clip or headband (available also at Forever 21/Claires). Red suspenders would be super cute. Black tights and heels (yellow ones if you have any). Don’t forget to draw on some fierce lashes. Consider blackening your nose to really complete the look.
  3. Japanese School Girl: This one is really easy. If you don’t already have one in your wardrobe, stop by Forever 21 (they are so ready for Halloween!) and get a mini plaid pleated skirt. I got this one because it’s neat and preppy. halloween- forever21 aBut if you feel like being from another rocker rival school, these are quite cool too.

halloween- forever21 b

Pair it with your favourite white dress shirt and style as creatively as possible (read: accessorize accessorize!). Roll up the sleeves and let it loose. Tie your hair up in pigtails. Accessorize with ribbons and colorful clips. Sling on a tie or a fashionable big necklace. I’m loving this one:

And of course, complete with some intense Japanese inspired make-up. Yes, that was what I was doing experimenting with Sailormoon Tutorial. But I tried it a second time and it still looked a bit too weird. So I’m going to go for the regular Anime look. I even bought fake lashes today! Wish me luck and I’ll report back if  I accidentally pull out my real lashes along with the fake ones Sunday morning (this is my first time trying them!).

    4. Ninja: I’m loving Michelle Phan’s ninja look. The good news is that I already have a black mask from Go Karting. Maybe next year.

Happy Halloween everyone!

Even though the nude pieces look very simple, I can feel the vibe of a more elegant and sophisticated Chloe girl in this collection. And by Chloe girl, I meant the one from before Philo left (I still haven’t made up my mind about MacGibbon yet).

Celine has never looked more attractive.
