A Prenatal Massage?

28 Monday Sep 2009

Thanks for everyone’s suggestions! We settled on the prenatal massage after getting reassurance that a massage table with a belly cradle is a luxury. Though I do wish I’d gotten Sasha’s comment earlier. I didn’t even know there was such a thing as a diaper cake, but it sounds kind of cool (and very useful). Could’ve gotten a diaper cake and a real cake for fun. But I’m sure she’ll love the massage too~

We’re currently brainstorming ideas for a gift for our boss, who is going to go on maternity leave soon. The men on our team have left it to us womenfolks to figure it out. Unfortunately most of us are under 30 and have no previous experience whatsoever with pregnancy. We thought of a 529 for the child (an inside joke), but found out we can’t set one up for an unborn, unnamed, unregistered child. We then came up with prenatal massage, which sounds like a good idea. It’s tailor made for pregnant women and it’s supposed to be relaxing. But then one of my colleague saw the prenatal massage video and wasn’t so sure how comfortable it would be for a pregnant woman to be lying on her stomach on a massage table with a belly cradle in it. Anyone tried it and have any idea how popular they are with pregnant women?

Or any other ideas for gifts to your pregnant boss?

A Gardasil Shot

After my doctor mentioned it and my mom started harping on about how soon I’d be too ancient to get it, I finally got my first Gardasil shot the other day. I was hesitant at first because everyone I’ve talked to told me that this shot hurts. Some told me it made them cry, other told me that it felt like they were poking the needle deep into your muscles. I even read an article about how there’s been an increase of girls fainting from vaccinations since this shot was introduced!

Physical pain has never been my strong suit. So prepared for the worst I walked into my doctor’s office, sat down, turned my head away and started rambling on nervously while the nurse got ready. She told me to take two deep breaths….. and I was done. The excruciating pain never came! It felt just like a regular blood drawing except even faster. I was so relieved I literally skipped out of the office. I don’t exactly look forward to my next shot in 2 months (apparently it’s not every 6 months, but 2 and 4 months), but at least now I don’t dread it either 🙂

SS10 Fashion Week

Ever since Marchesa came onto the scene, I’ve looked forward to their collection every season. I just love staring at them because every look is a fairy tale to dream about.

SS10- marchesa 1

These edgy, youthful pieces stood out in the collection. One is romantic while the other one is glamorous. It has Blair Waldorf and Serena van der Woodsen written all over them!

Then there were these elegant, statuesque pieces. If it were anyone else the cut outs in between may look tacky, but Georgina Chapman keeps it graceful and refined.

Doesn’t this dress look like a gorgeously wrapped present?

This dress is breathtaking. If I were a fairy tale princess, I’d be wearing this dress!

Doodles

Nevermind. I did some more photoshopping and now I’m very happy with this one 😀

Ps. The little thing after the G is a teacup and not an “O”………..

I’ve been doodling lately, and after spending a few hours on Photoshop with my doodles this morning, I came up with this. I wanted to keep it simple, but unfortunately my doodle only looks good in a square shape. So I had to add something on the side to make it rectangular to fit the layout.

I tried my Met picture from before, but that looked too foreboding with the girly script. Finally, I decided to add some pop to it with prints from the Marc by MJ SS10 runway. I am kind of happy with it, except I worry that it’s a bit too much. Thoughts?

SS10 Fashion Week

I love Marc by Marc Jacobs so much that I usually buy a piece or two each season. The last few collections though were not that exciting for me and so I stopped, thinking that maybe the day has finally come when I grew out of Marc by Marc Jacobs. But it looks like I’m going to have to start saving up, because the SS10 collection is LOVE LOVE LOVE. It’s vibrant, youthful, girly and refreshing. What more can a girl ask for?

Who knew that plaid, tribal print and grandma’s sweater can look so good? If only I knew how to mix prints and patterns like this!

Note to self:

  • Stalk those harem pants
  • Try on big bow headbands
  • Invest in colorful high top sneakers, because they are just the thing to bring life to an overly formal/sophisticated outfit
  • Yes! Flat sandals are back, and they look super comfortable!

SS10 Fashion Week

Usually I skip the Marc Jacobs show, preferring its more youthful and wearable  (and affordable!) sister. But this season, I was pleasantly surprised to find that I can really appreciate this collection! Probably because its theatre, ballet and opera theme appealed to my inner starlet.

You’re not going to see anyone dressed on the streets looking like this, but I can totally see the potential in all of these pieces! Those pink ballerina harem pants would look great with a simple tee. I can’t wait to break apart all the pieces in the second look to create multiple sophisticated yet feminine looks. That off shoulder soft blue top is divine, and would look gorgeous with skinny jeans. And I think I’m going to have to find myself a thin baby doll coat with a skinny belt to replicate that fourth look!

And who knew that fringed boho bags and fanny packs can look so cool?

SS10-marc jacobs 2

More artistic, ruffly pink pieces that I just love to look at. I can imagine a tamer version of the first look in the shops. The contrast between the soft ruffles and the sharp dress shirt is genius!

I can see a few celebs wearing the first two dresses looking effortlessly cool on the red carpet next year. The second dress just flows! And the third look is just ethereal, like a cloud floating around her figure!

Incredibly Chic or Matronly?

I tried on this Stretch Flannel Olive top the other day at J Crew, just because the mannequin looked incredibly chic wearing it with a dress shirt underneath. I thought, what an unique take on the office basics of blazers/vests etc!

Jcrew

Unfortunately, I’d forgotten that I was a mere mortal and not a model. I looked like a drab! The dark color and unfitted tailoring made it incredibly unflattering and aging. Combined with a full suit, I imagine it would look incredibly matronly instead of chic. Oh well, I liked the concept behind it though.

I went to the Oprah Kickoff Party Today!

Update: Apparently, this was what we missed. How did we miss this??

***********

I’ve been in Chicago for over five years now (time flies!), and I have yet to see an Oprah show. So when I recieved mail that Oprah was blocking off Mag Mile today to do a shooting, I thought this is it! It’s even starting just after work hours. How many chances does one get to see the Oprah show literally at their doorstep? I won’t even have to wait for ages for the bus or squeeze onto the train afterwards!

DSC05130

And so my colleague and I snuck off a little before five today, hoping to get a decent standing spot. We entered from the side and boy was it packed! We tried to sneak our way forward the best we could without pretending to have a “medical emergency,” and we did make respectable headway if I may say so myself. Unfortunately, the crowd was very tall for two 5′ 4″ Asian girls and we literally could not see anything and had to stand on our tip toes and strain our heads just to see the corner of the projector screens. The best view we had was through the screen of other people’s cameras! We glimpsed Oprah’s yellow clad form on the screen and heard Black Eyed Peas played. When we realized that we have no idea (and still do not) what the big “surprise” that involved thousands of people that had Oprah exclaiming that it was the most extraordinary thing she’s ever seen was even though we were there, we realized that there really wasn’t much point in staying. And so we left and had  Berry Chill instead. But at least now we get to tick something off our Bucket’s list (kind of) and say we were there and felt the atmosphere!

Oh Look!

I finally pushed the check out button today for these boots. Today is a sufficiently depressing day for me to use some cheering up!

The Hunter wellingtons come in violet!!

Hunter Violet

How pretty is that? This color immediately appealed to my young, girly side who adores purple! It would look so pop and pretty with my black trench coat on a pouring day (I’ll actually look forward to one!). But then I don’t think it would look really professional with a suit. Now that I’ve convinced myself that I should get a pair of Hunters (after my cheap pair of Target polka dot rainboots started to leak after maybe 5 wears, I’m ready to put down the money!!!!), I imagine that I’d be wearing them forever and it’ll take me from fun to work. Naturally I don’t plan to be wearing them at work with a suit, just on the way to work on a rainy day. But still, I don’t want to look like an idiot. Also, even though I have no doubt I’d still love this color in 5 years time, I’m not sure it would match with all my outfiits- it is a very vibrant purple!

Hunter Aubergine

Perhaps I should stick to my original plan and get the more somber Aubergine color? It is one of the “original” colors for a reason, and this one used to be “bright” comparatively before the violet came along! Thoughts?

And yes, I’m blogging abnormally early on a Saturday morning. I’ve been having nightmares all night about my upcoming gardasil shot (which is not until next next week!) etc and actually had to get up to rearrange the fengshui of my pillows in the hopes of better sleep.
